New years resolutions

Well, it's that time of year again. The way I see it, it's daft to make new years resolutions in the middle of winter when it's cold, dark and depressing and there's no way of being motivated to do anything. So I wait a bit.

It's also a waste of time to try to be who you feel you should want to be rather than what you want to achieve. No dieting or excercise for me. It's just a time to take stock of where I am and what I want.

A few years ago, I listed what I wanted, and came up with:
  1. Get a new job.
  2. Find a new place to live.
  3. Find something to do in the evenings.
  4. Make some friends.
  5. Find a girlfriend.
Which was reasonably successful.  I managed #3 and #4 reasonably quickly once I put my mind to it.  After a year and a half I managed #1 and #2 which is nice but #3 was pretty much London based.  And moving makes #4 an issue again.  #5 was a low self esteem thing at the time.  I've got over that and I'll just let things happen there.

So that means I have two aims:
  1. Find a hobby
  2. Make some local friends.
Clearly, #1 can lead to #2.  But I can't help feeling all the hobbies I'm drawn to are a little geeky.  On the other hand I rather want to meet some geeky people.  And something that's not toally male dominated would be nice.

That all depends on the system. Nyctophobia, for instance, is one of the more balanced groups--plenty of kickass ladies there. Probably because it's more about the, yanno, roleplay, and less about hitting each other with foam weaponry. :p

I guess I should stop it with the blatant advertising now... :p

My friend [livejournal.com profile] flannelcat runs (or at least is heavily involved in) a Neverwhere based LARP called Brighton Below. Him and his crowd are lovely people, on the Goth/performance artist end of geek. If you drop him a line mentioning that you know me and Dylan I'm sure they'd be more than welcoming.

Perhaps. I just find the LARP thing a little scary, having never done it, or for that matter RPed a lot at all.

Me and a couple of friends are actually planning to run a random roleplay day in London for a couple of friends in London who have never really roleplayed much before. The date isn't finallised yet, but it it looks to be around the 16th or so of June. I'm sure you would be more than welcome to come along if you're interested...

Sounds like it could be fun. Let me know closer to the time.

Oh my, I read about this one on the Rule7 forums. I wanna play!

Sometimes, living all the way over here really sucks.
