Or, as [livejournal.com profile] flickums would have it, "Starlord and his Raptor Bros"

Really should have had more focus on Owen, the Raptors and the I-rex and less on the kids. Lots of that stuff just bugged me.

Why did Gray seem to be living in 1982? He had a model snowspeeder, a view-master, a space Invaders poster. Later on he seems to be using a film camera. I assumed this was a flashback to one of the adults growing up, but then we go outside and his brother is talking about texting his girlfriend. They're being sent for inexplicable reasons to the world's worst run prehistoric zoological theme park.

I get that Aunt Claire is a little too fixated on numbers and data to get on with having a life, but is it really so bad that she puts her own career over the brats her sister dumped on her. She's a serious high flyer who must have worked pretty hard to get to that position, and the park is in the process of a new release. It's not like she can just drop it. Besides the kids are old enough to look after themselves when not being monumentally stupid.

Zach has a girlfriend. This is never mentioned again. Zach is a Casanova wannabee. Gray tells him to talk to girls rather than just looking. This is never mentioned again. Gray mentions that their parents are clearly going through a divorce. This is never mentioned again. The poor, slightly flustered PA that has been sent to look after the kids gets picked up by pterosaurs, dropped in the water, grabbed by another pterosaur, and then eaten by a mosasaurus. This is never mentioned again. Chekov's law doesn't appy to these kids.

The awesome parts are all about the dinosaurs. We have the I-Rex outwitting the park security (not difficult - I think the prehistoric fungus outwitted them), Owen training the raptors with the clicker, and a big dino fight at the end. Chris Pratt holding back the raptors thrugh sheer force of will was probably the most iconic scene of this summer's batch of movies.
