My hectic social life

Am very unpacked. My apartment now looks a lot less like an Ikea show-flat. Is missing a few essentials though - kettle, scales, baking tin, mixer; essentially I need a cake kit. Also I'd like a waffle iron and a juicer but they can wait.

Friday night I went to a board game meetup group thing. Played Concept. Have to put icons on pictures to spell out a clue on a card (a film, person, object or whatever). Also Robo-Rally (have to get robots from point A to point B by pre-programming them). Met some nice people. Saturday afternoon, went for epic lunch with a friend I met on OkC, and who, despite being 5'3" and skinny seemed to have no trouble polishing off a plate that seemed almost as big as she is. Didn't really get a lot of chat going though. We're both probably a bit too shy. I think we would get on if we could get over the initial awkwardness. Perhaps we needed beer.

Evening was another meetup. Do a geocache then drink in the beer garden (bit too cold really - would have been nice with weather from 3 days earlier). Geocache was a great ice-breaker.

Today I was meant to be meeting someone else from OkC. She had to cancel. Shame. Was looking forward to the hula-hooping. Have instead decided to unbox my Wii and play Lylat wars and Zelda.

Started running again. Decided I'd start at week 2 of couch to 5k because I'm not that out of shape. Need to fit it in around my hectic social life though. Good way to explore.

Running, weather and illness

Since I was getting zero exercise, I decided to take up running. I went for the couch to 5K plan. The idea is you start off mostly walking with short jogs, and build up to a 5 km run.

Started off pretty well. Then winter happened. Took a while but eventually acquired some tracksuit trousers. A lot harder than expected since everywhere seemed to charge a fortune for them. Built up distance over a few weeks. Winter decided to fight back and send snow and sub zero temperatures. It was a struggle to even want to leave. Still, I managed to fight through it, but going out is hard enough. Pushing myself past that was impossible. The running plan allows taking it easy and stretching it out, so I did that until the weather improved.

Seems the universe doesn't like this plan.

Weather improved. Had a long weekend which meant I took 4 days between runs rather than the usual 2 or 3.  Then caught an annoying cold largely knocking me out. Spent a week not running. Got better. Weather decided to send more sub-zero temperatures. Weather improved. Caught another cold. Am feeling better now, but is that snow or sleet out there?

I'm also finding this is getting a bit boring. There are only so many routes I can take around the city.

So, right now I'm making negative progress and getting irked by it.

Honestly, I don't think it's just this. A lot of things have been not working how I want. I haven't had something I can consider a "win" for a while.

I really want a win.
