Okay. I know I'm being a nerd here.

Remember the BBC's Great British Design Quest? I think they missed an other important one out. The BBFC film ratings introduced in 1982. They're actually rather clever. The bright colours makes them stand out on any poster. They're also all different colours making it very hard to getone confused with another. The traffic light metaphor gave them an obvious choice of colours., We also have a road sign metaphor. Trianglular ones warn. Circular ones command.

The reason I was thinking about that is because I was looking a these. The Pan European Game Information Ratings. They're dull. They're square. They're black and white. It's unorganised. The symbols are obscure and meaningless. Okay - violence, drugs and bad language sort of make sense, but that "sex" symbol? Does this mean its endorsed by prince? Is a spider really the best they could come up with for "fear"? And what the hell is the discrimination symbol trying to show? "Warning! In this game, white people are taller than black people"?
