Angst.

Things keep reminding it's Valentine's day in a couple of days.  That just makes me feel depressed.

Think I'll need some anti-valentines day celebration come Thursday.

There is gaming Friday, and Modelworld/films on Saturday.
Concentrate on that instead ;)

I thought the whole point of St Valentine's day was for single people to admit who they loved? I am sure it isn't for couples...*wanders off to wiki*...

Gosh it is a long and convoluted history.

Well it is all bollocks, that has been confirmed by wiki.

Chaucer first seemed to use it in the context I mentioned. I certainly remember at school it was for people to admit who they fancied (in an anonymous capacity though).

Yeah, although I always thought the 'secret V cards' plan sucked more as I never got any! lol.

Not had much trunk with it since, especially since the one time we made an effort & went to a restaurant on Vday they'd changed their nice menu to something manky!

The name is misleading. 'Make single people feel like crap Day' is far more appropriate. Not-a-V-Day-Party? Sounds good to me. The idea calls for action-laden movies, silly games, and spicy food to counteract the pink fluffy sweetness.

Not like I don't enjoy being hideously soppy, given the occasion. But I'm still bitter about Valentine's, and I don't think that'll ever change. :p

Valentine's Day smells. If you're single, it makes you feel miserable about being single, if you're in a couple, it makes you feel miserable about not being able to live up to the romantic hype (see also why New Years is always a let down). In it's current incarnation it's just another way for the retail industry to make us feel inadequate and try and medicate it with consumerism.

I second [livejournal.com profile] nayela's suggestion, or at least getting all your single friends together and going out for dinner, to celebrate that you can actually have fun and don't have to behave all the time.

Urgh, I've never celebrated V-Day in my life. When I'm single, I reallllly don't feel the need to; and when I'm not, I'd rather my significant other would buy me a nice surprise present some time than just because they 'had' to.

This year, I'm thinking maybe a restaurant with some friends, and a nice BBC period drama. *veg*
