Where did that come from!?
Jan. 11th, 2003 08:30 pmI've discovered I have a copy of The War of the Worlds in penguin paperback format. Didn't go in my DVD player, but the packaging looks interesting.
The odd thing is, I can't remember ever buying this book. When did I get it? Where did it come from? Why didn't I notice it before? I've been after something to read for ages.
Also discovered that it was a mistake to make a claim on my insurance last year. It means that this year's quote is considerably more than it should have been. I'll have to see if they can be a little more competitive though. I have a quote from elephant for about half as much. Perhaps they have some sort of sane no claims policy or something.
Other news. Anyone who is not interested in geekiness skip this paragraph. I've had a shufti at Open Watcom. Looks interesting. Sybase stopped developing it, but using customer relations as an excuse, they released the source. So, I downloaded this, upgraded from Watcom C 10.6 to Watcom C 11.0. not quite sure if there are any improvements other than the new __int64 type, and MMX instructions in the assembler. Hopefully there are some better optimisation options. 10.6 is a contemporary of the Pentium Pro. I could really do with some optimisations for the K6-2 at least. Nice to have the source code though. I've been meaning to get my hands dirty with compiler stuff, and now I have a chance. Doesn't seem to be building properly though. This is slightly worrying since Watcom C 11.0 shuld have been tested on Watcom C 11.0
Taken. hmm, looks interesting and starts soonish. Unlike 24, it looks like I can be in at episode 1 for this.
Been shopping. A friend has a birthday soonish (Happy Birthday to
juanitadark by the way), so I had to look for something. The gadget shop is always a good choice for techies,so I raided it. I did try looking at DVDs but none seemed appealing, although I'm sure some readers may be pleased to hear that Buster Crabbe in Flash Gordon is available for about 8 quid at HMV (I think it was HMV anyway).
And I was looking for Lord of the rings. There's too much choice with books. Should I get a paperback, a hardback, 3 paperbacks, 3 hardbacks, a boxed set of paperbacks, or what. The problem with the big paperback is that it's a little bit cheap looking. The problem with everything else is that they cost morem, and even Sussex stationers doesn't do a good special offer. Sussex stationers not selling books at at least 25% off? What is the world coming to?
