Live music, and a Joust
Jul. 25th, 2004 11:07 pmBeen an active weekend. Not often I have those.
Some friends of mine are in a band (speedway 5). On Friday they had a gig. Very good they were too. Strangely after weeks of feeling down and depressed about this weather, I feel hot and uncomfortable because it's actually hot. Makes for a very pleasant Summer evening though. So, I saw some friends, listened to some music, drunk some beer, got hot and sweaty. Always a larf.
Saturday I did nothing. Got bored with that so went for a walk. Got rather hot there so I bought an ice cream. Yum. Ice cream. Mango and passion fruit Bounty it was.
ghostpaw and
dylan were going in London, so we thought it would be good to meet up. As it turned out, we met up in Heddingly castle, which is nowhere near London, but it was jousting and falconry displays and stuff like that, so I thought it sounded like it could be fun. So I turned up, met them and ghostpaw's family, and watched people act daft while wearing chain mail.

The tournament would probably get in trouble with the authenticity police, but was fun to watch anyway. Involved them insulting each other frequently as an excuse to fight each other by sword. And occasionally charging at each other on horses. And they kept playing Pirates of The Carribean theme tune. (I really have to see that film again. ) Much hamming up, and silliness and therefore much merriment.
Then we went to get some food. Pork rolls, from a spit roast pig. Tasty.
Falconry stuff was interesting. Those birds really don't do as they're told though. They lurk in a tree, and then swoop when you least expect them to, because they're hunting birds, and that's what they're meant to do. Makes it very very difficult to get a shot of one, espcially with the dealy from a digital camera. Got a lot of shots of treetops, and a few blurry shots of falcons.
Almost went into the castle itslef, but there were too many people there. Fortunately I managed to squeeze in at the end of the day. Nice enough castle, but a little bit small, so there's not really a lot to see.
I'm sure I have a lot more to say, but really I spent most of the day taking photos. I need to put my pictures up. I should really create an automated utility for photo slideshow display.
