A triumph. A masterpiece of dialogue and humour. Wonderful pacing and a beautiful British charm to it.

Wish I could say the same about the film.

Just been listening to the new radio series. Season 4 has started. Is available online, and must be listened to. I loved it. The lorry driver/rain god was great. The dialogue was snappy and well delivered.

I really didn't like the film. I wanted to. And I even felt it was going to be good after the first few minutes, which is where people usually form opinions. I don't have a problem with the plot being changed entirely. Hitchhikers was just a sketch show anyway. The plot didn't always make any sense, but it didn't matter because it was all about dialogue. But the film didn't have the snappy dialogue. All the best lines weren't there, many were shortened, and others just didn't seem to work. And while it was nice seeing original Marvin, I felt the in joke was a little laboured.

I've been reading various forums. There is such a split. People either loved it and can't believe anyone could possibly have anything bad to say about it, or they hated it, and can't think anyone could possibly like it.

Most odd.

A plot inconsistency has just occured to me for all incarnations. The Improbability drive relied on a brownian motion generator. "Say a nice hot cup of tea". Clearly, the Galaxy has people other than Englishmen who like a nice cup of tea, and they were involved in creating the Heart Of Gold. So why does Arthur find it so difficult to get a cuppa?

(Yes, I realsie this can be explained by Galactic Tea being different from India tea, but that somehow makes the "Brownian motion generator" joke less funny).
