Jul. 28th, 2005 09:57 amIt seems I'm a criminal mastermind.
I got on a train without having a valid ticket for my entire journey.
Buying tickets at Waterloo is rediculous. The queus are huge, and there's always someone who has an extremely complicated request in the queue. I was running late so I thought I'd hop on a train and buy a ticket from the guard.
Except there was no sign of the guard.
I tried buying one at my destination. I was charged a £20 penalty fare. I really feel this is unjustified since I had every intention of buying a ticket. And I explained this. He wasn't remotely flexible about it. I said he was a jobsworth.
"I'm just doing my job" really isn't a defence against that accusation.
I find it a bit annoying that having every intention of paying results in a penalty fare. Ah well. I'll just appeal. Clapham Junction doesn't have notices that would be seen by someone changing onto a penalty fares train from any other train. As such it isn't a penalty fares station. Neither is Waterloo. If they're going to be inflexible about the rules, so shall I.
