Pratchett Play
Feb. 11th, 2006 12:53 pmFeeling generally a fair bit better, so spent the day in Woking before going to see the play. Amusements for the day:
Went for lunch with
tictactoepony, The Brain, and another pony collecting person. Had soup. Still not got much of an appetite.
Went round Toys R Us. And followed round tictactoepony pony and her friend as they did some girly shopping.
Watched "My Neighbour Totoro". Very cute and funny but ultimately seemed kinda pointless.
Whizzed up to Abingdon to see the play.
Received a call from work asking whether I was coming in. I explained that I'd booked the day off. Boss man said he'd checked, but I'm pretty sure I requested the time off on Tuesday 24th January (There were lots of things happening at the time).
Went for a Chinese meal. Staff there were very happy to serve us quickly (I doubt restaurants ever have a problem with customers leaving quickly). Food was very good but I wasn't all that hungry at the time. Nor was I in the mood for Mulled wine at the theatre:(
Lovely theatre building. The Unicorn Theatre is a very old Elizabethan Abbey building. Very fitting for Shakespeare, or Pratchett for that matter. Bit draughty but the stage area itself is heated, and quite comfortable. And all the seats have a pretty good view of the stage.
Always been fond of Amdram. This was a production of Terry Pratchetts Lords and Ladies. And as such it was a lot of fun. Terry Pratchett's books always seem to work well on the stage. The humour tends to be very verbal, so a lot of the jokes can be lifted directly off the page, and there's a good blend of action and comedy. Witches were well cast. I think getting them right is important in any play set in the Ramtops.
Should really go to the theatre more often.
