Evil junk mail
Jun. 12th, 2007 12:35 pmJunk mail offering overpriced loans is my biggest annoyance.
I'm more annoyed by the fact that they send the crap than I receive it. Mailing preference wouldn't solve it.
It's a parasitic means of advertising. For every response they get they've sent out 100-200 letters. Those 100-200 get absolutely no benefit from it. Magazine and TV advertising pays for magazines and TV programmes. What do I get for junk mail? Some free useless paper.
But the other annoyance is that most of it's for services that really shouldn't exist. The most recent was for a short term loan at at 177% interest!!! Seriously - anyone who needs that sort of money is going to take out a bank loan. If they can't get a ban loan the reason is probably that they can't afford to repay it. If they can't afford to repay it they realyl shouldn't be taking out a loan in the first place. Rang uop the freephone number to discuss this woth them. the chap seemed absolutely certain that some people do need these loans. Didn't seem to agree that every financial advisor ever disagrees with him. But I wasted his time so that's reasonably satisfying.
Then I stuffed everything in the envelope, and wrapped it in sellotape to send back to them. Wonder if they'll try to open it. It's not going to be easy.
Still want a way to be meaner to these people.
They did have what appered to be a cheque in the envelope. I was tempted to see if I could cash it.
