So, I make a throwaway comment about how it might be fun to set up a crew for next Serenity LARP, and all of a sudden I have a mechanic , a potential investor, a possible late arrival (would like a nominal crew position but can't actually be a player next time) and a couple of other people who aren't totally sure what they might bring to a crew but seem up for it.

Anyone else up for it?  (Rules are here).

That said, I may still do the crewing thing next time...  They really should have thought of a better term for staff/monsters than "crew".

I really don't know who I want to be.  Would be nice to be someone who isn't a companion/dumb brute/angsty captain/doctor/deranged gifted girl/geeky mechanic/mysterious shepherd/ace pilot/ex-soldier.

Also occurred to me that it can be tricky for new players to get themselves involved.  Especially if they're a little shy - far from uncommon amongst people who do LARP - I had this problem first time I did a LARP thing and it seems a lot of tothers have done as well.

A guide for new players would be useful.  So, anyone have any specific tips?  Thoughts I have at the moment are work out what your character wants, have lots of random bits of semi-relevant background information that the organisers might be able to use, dive right in to plot, and don't worry about getting in the way of other characters, consider crewing for your first event.
