Tesco had strawberries going cheap because they were almost at the best before date.
I made jam! Well, my breadmaker actually did most of the work. I really need to get a breadmaker that will also churn butter, slice the bread and make a jam sandwich.
Jam tastes nice. Just not set as well as I hoped. They were presumably expecting me to use preserving sugar which I have since discovered contains Pectin.
Also not sure about whether it was worth the time and effort. For 99p I can get some decent enough strawberries in sufficient quantity to make a jar and a bit of jam. Plus a few pence for sugar and lemon juice.
For £1.20 I could have just bought a jar of jam.
I think next time I'll just need to be more creative with the fruit I use.
