Starfury: Vampire Ball 2. Hotel thoughts
Sep. 30th, 2011 06:34 pmThe one where Eliza cancels last minute. Well, a week before the con. Not that I was all that surprised to be honest. And something about her makes me think she's a bit of a diva. Maybe this is unfair.
So first thoughts: This hotel is HUGE! We're at the Renaissance Hotel for a change. Not sure if I've been in this one before.
Parking was fun. I was slightly annoyed at the people not being able to fit in the parking spaces but really they haven't really given the punters much space to get it right. Checked in. Yes I will be charging stuff to my room. Figure I can afford it. Room is down 300 miles of corridors. Always the way near heathrow where hotels are flat and wide. Am amused that a fairly expensive hotel always seems to want to tack on extras (okay , I'm only paying £60 a night, but that's a convention rate. Most people will pay more. I wonder if anyone has ever paid the advertised standard room rate for a room though). Tea and coffee making facilities are just tea and coffee. No jars of tea-leaves, ground coffee and hot chocolate like I had at the Clifton in Bristol. And no biscuits, let alone the expensive one that smaller hotels offer. Internet cost £15 a day. Internet on a stick was one of the best purchases I made. Cost me 20 quid a year or so ago (including £10 credit), and a tenner gives me 30 days wi-fi.
So anyway, I arrived. Checked in. Saw an epic queue near registration. I asked a random person "Is this the registration queue or photos queue?". Turns out it's the photos queue. Reg queue was 2 people.
Hotel is conveniently close to the Three Magpies pub. Am sitting here spodding (another plus with the net-on-a-stick). Is a piza place round the corner. Wondering where my fish and chips is... Seems to be taking its time.
