Saw the Tintin movie the other day.  Found it pretty enjoyable.  A Spielberg film with a Stephen Moffat script, so you can be sure there's plenty of action, some witty dialogue, a solid plot and high production values.  Fantastic rendering quality but have issues with the uncanny valley, especially the main characters - Tintin and Snowy both look a little odd.  Haddock and the Thompsons are caricature enough that it doesn't matter so much.  Was a bit bemused that money seemed to be in "quid".  Also seemed strange that this was handled in coins.  Was intrigued to see John Williams had written he score. For some reason I thought he'd died a few years back.  Apparently not.

Apparently there are a few in-jokes for the fans.  Not having ever read any of the comics, I'll take their word for it.  There was a nice scene at the start where someone draws his portrait.

I went to the 3D showing, more out of not paying attention than actual choice.  I'm not convinced that this is the future.  Partly because the guy selling me the ticket seemed almost apologetic about it being a 3D film.  Something I can't help noticing is that it seems a lot more 3D than reality.  I suspect the depth is probably exaggerated and it only looks right because the brain applies its optical processing magic. Ultimately though, it doesn't quite work.  It doesn't look real.

Other thoughts: We get these film promo ads, where a pair of M&Ms compere as an interviewer does a couple of half-arsed interviews about some film that's coming out.  Meanwhile movie news scrolls across the bottom of the screen, where we learn that the most exiting things coming to the bog screen are fourth sequels, and remakes.  What someone really needs to tell Mars is that the ads aren't actually funny.
