Keep watching the skies
Mar. 22nd, 2012 12:14 pmWent to another Geek Chic meetup thing. Stargazing. This time with clear skies! Last three months it's been overcast
So, I saw Jupiter and its moons, Mars, Saturn, Venus, Polaris and its companion. Really had a good view of the rings in one of those scopes. And people are all very friendly and happy to show everyone else what they're looking at. All really interesting, although I'm not totally convinced I understand this as a regular hobby. Seems to be limited scope. I will hopefully be able to go down there next weekend. Also hope to be living in Welwyn so I can actually join people for a drink afterwards.
Chatted to a random astronomer in the cafe. Explained the group. Mentioned the boardgaming meet in a couple of weeks time. Then found myself explaining that board gaming certainly didn't mean Monopoly.
Am trying to decide what to bring to that. I rather like Apples to Apples because it's a good mixer game. The group organiser insists that I should bring Carcassonne because it's a gateway game. Also that I should bring Settlers for the same reason (honestly, I think she's a drug pusher). I need more luggage space!
