luckykaa: (pancake)
So Sunday saw a mishmash of things in Brussels.

It was Dimanche sans voitures.  A day when cars were barred from the city.  It made the place spookily quiet. I spent my timeleaping out of the way of bikes rather than cars.  Walked to the park.  On the way, Someone kicked a can and it drowned out everything else. There was a farmers' market/slow food event. Good place for lunch.  They had a petting zoo and a jazz tent as well.  Then I got bored...

In the evening I went to EAT! Brussels - This was an event for promoting Brussels's restauarants.  Squeezed on to the tram (public transport was free for the day), and the tram made it one more stop before we all had to getoff.  Squeezed on an even more rammed tram.  It wobbled along as far as the park, letting people off and alloing me a little more room, and finally I reached the festival, and eventually found my friends.

A whole host of restarants had set up. I was spoiled for choice.  These things seem to use tokens for some reason.  This emeans estimating how much you might want up front.  I decided to start with 15 Euros, which was enough to buy me some beek teriyaki, half a plate of Spring rolls (I shared that), and a beer, before I decided that perhaps I ought to try some more of the available delights.  So I was tempted by goat skewers.  Queued up.  Waited.   Was ignored by people.  No eye contact. Nothing.  Gave up in a sulk and went for a Chinese roast duck with a tasty sauce.

As closing time approached, the restaurants started to run out of nice things.  SO I used up my remaining tokens on beer, smoothies, and sweet dumplings.
