Fedcon

So I'm really rather undecided about Fedcon.

Well, there were the celebrity talks. And while most of the questions were a little bit fan-worshipy, the good guests tended to use the question as a launching point. Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi, B5) went for crazy right wing rants. Colin Baker (I assume everyone knos the 6th Doctor) had a number of quips and stories. Edward James Olmos (Adama BSG and many many more shows) talked about lots of deep and meaningful things. Eva Haberman taked in German... Sean Young talked bout her acting career.

I was slightly miffed that they had allocated seating (by row). This is so damn German! Because I was in the 900's, my row was stuck right out at the side. However, the other thing I found was that there were a lot of empty seats (even entire rows) and figured I'm paying as much as anyone else, so I'm damn well going to sit where I can see!

Saw lots of people in costumes. Also a woman dressed as Agent Carter promoting SyFy Deutschland. We could get our photos taken with her. So I did. 501st Legion was there and looking awesome, but I didn't get a good picture of their march past.

Thursday evening there was a lot of partying and I met all the people I met last year. Friday night there was more parting and I chatted to various new people included Harley Quinn, and a girl who had Elsa's hair.

I went as Captain Jack on the Saturday but nobody wanted my photo. I really should have done the Captain Proton costume instead. I have access to all that stuff now after all.

But I did find myself with a lot of downtime. A lot of Saturday and Sunday is spent with autographs which is never something that's interested me that much. I might if there's someone I really love but Katie Sackhof wasn't there. Also I was feeling a little shy. I don't reall like going to people and expecting they speak English. And while talks are often fun I find hot crowded rooms get a little hard for me to bear after a while. Plus I really go to these things for the people rather than the star guests. I fail at fanboying.

I did see Star Trek: Renegades! (fan funded pilot from Tim Russ with lots of big names) Which had a lot of nice ideas but and was about as good as all the other Trek Pilots. Yes, that bad!

On Saturday night, everyone was watching Tricia Helfer and James Callis (Number 6 and Baltar from BSG) and there was nobody around. I was feeling a little bored and lonely so I went back to my hotel and watched Eurovision. Poor Russian Singer. Having her hopes scuppered by her government.

So on Sunday I was feeling a little dejected. But then I went to a talk from one of the Lego Star Wars designers. And it was brilliant. Then there was more ranting from Jerry Doyle, and the BSG panel. And after the closing ceremony things got really good! I started chatting to a guy with a Star Trek shirt. He was English, and his colleague was fluent. Turns they were Star Trek Online guys. And a true and trusted Trekkies. Good to know paramount hire people who care about this stuff. Had a good time talking to them.

One of my friends is fearlessly sociable, and introduced her friends to various celebrities. Arron Douglas (Chief from BSG) was a serious fanboy and wanted to tweet a pic of my T-shirt (The "I am your father" one with the AT-AT and scoutwalker). Spent a lot of time just drinking and chatting with friends.

So I'm really not sure how I feel about next year. Do I want to go. I did have a lot of fun, but there was a lot of downtime. And really I prefer a more fannish convention.
