The joys of driving a 12 year old car.
Feb. 5th, 2019 08:48 amWe bought a Ford Mondeo a couple of years ago.
flickums named it Harrison.
For £400 you don't get a great car. In this case it came with a dead battery. We could have taken it back and asked the seller to fix it, but he'd have just swapped it with another car.
Suspension was a bit broken as well.
After that it was reasonably well behaved. 2 MOTs each with minor fixes needed. One new exhaust pipe. Repairs have cost several times more than the car did, of course, but probably works out to a lot less than repayments on a car that isn't a rustbucket.
It is making a lot of noise though. Mechanic reckons it's either the alternator pulley (cheap to replace) or the injectors (might as well buy a new car). Still, the car still runs. Should make it to the MOT. If the alternator dies before then, the car is still drivable until the battery runs down, and can still be fixed.
Seriously considering a newer car. Maybe something that's a bit less of a war rig.
