New Year 2022

flickums' family in Scotland. Loaded the car up with bags and presents and headed to our holiday home. A holiday lodge owned by a friend of Flick's parents. Slight detour as I missed the car park for Southwaite services so had to turn round. Actually I don't think I did need to, but I really wish it was more obvious how to get back to the car park if you do miss a turning.
We arrived eventually. Satnav to rural locations is never great but we had directions and after chatting to the owners, we were shown to the lodge. And very cosy it was,with a nice bed to snuggle up in, and a kitchenette. Although we should have brought our own tea and milk.
Both had trouble sleeping so set off early to wake up Flick's parents. We weren't planning on waking them but they weren't up as early as Flick expected. Still, we had breakfast. Chatted a bit. Got barked at a lot by Kira, who is a rescue dog and tends to be skittish around me. Went with Flcik's mum to to take Kira and Callum for a walk hoping she might warm to me and she didn't bark during the walk but still seemed angry at me when we got back.
Did the present exchange. I received a bunch of nice presents including a beer making kit and a woolly hat.
Had a nap. Went to a farm shop but was disappointed. Went to see the sea. Girvan has a nice sandy beach with a harbour and a few boats, including a lifeboat. One of the bigger boats seemed like it was derelict, and I wonder what it was doing there. Surely harbours charge money and there's scrap value.
Anyway, strolled up to the sea. I'm actually rather a fan of beaches in the winter. Not really great for a dip but it's calming and there's always plenty of people playing with dogs or just going for a walk.
Had the second Christmas dinner of the year. It was nice but Flickums retains the crown for Queen of Yorkshires.
Played card games - a shot in the dark where you have to make a wild stab at an answer to a question that you have no possible way of knowing - things like "what is the average time people have their first drink on Christmas Day". And I can't remember what the answer to that one is but I think it was about 11 or something. Also played a pub quiz game, a game where we had to ring a bell when there were 5 of the same fruit, and Making Christmas (Nightmare before Christmas themed). Also did the Disney jigsaw puzzle with multiple sized pieces that I bought for Flickums at the Disney store.
Hils decided to turn in early. We decided to wait around until New Year to see the new year in. I had my New Year beer and was the onlyone drinking. We watched Jools Holland who, I think at this point, they just defrost every new year. New year happened. I smooched Flickums. And that was really about it.
Always the designated driver Flickums took us back to the lodge where I slept like a log.
Left for home around midday. Stopped at Tebay services because I can't resist the farm shop. Bought some game for roasting and some cheese and some more cheese, a chocolate tart couple of bottles of chocolate stout some cider and some interesting looking jam (Chocolate and Raspberry). Finally got home where we collapsed with Chinese takeaway and the Rocketeer.
