Under the ocean! Under the sea!

It's my birthday!

As a treat, Flickums took me on some excursions. This did involve going to the other side of the island, but it's not a large island, and there's a direct bus service (despite Google claiming otherwise).

So after an early start, we got to the bus station, queued to buy a ticket and were told that we need to buy a ticket on the bus. So we queued for the bus, bought tickets and eventually arrived at Puerto do Mogan (which I learned from the bus driver if pronounced Mohan and nobody else had corrected me).

Trip #1 was a submarine adventure!

Yes, the submarine was yellow! It dives to a fairly modest 25m at the deepest and sails past lots of fish and a couple of shipwrecks (One trip advisor review complained that that was all there was to see. I'm still trying to work out what they expected). One of the shipwrecks was being explored by frogmen. We waved. Some of them waved back!

So we then had a short wait for excursion #2. Boat ride and snorkelling!

The crew of the boat - Captain Marta and Ruben the guide. (also her husband).  They were absolutely lovely people. So we sailed out to the southwest of the island, then turned back part way to jump out and do some snorkelling. Something I've never actually done before. Decided that flippers weren't actually all that helpful because I had no idea how to use them. But a pool noodle might be. In hindsight I probably should have kept the flippers. What I really should have done was applied sunblock to my back and shoulders. I am now lobster coloured.

Snorkelling was a lot of fun though. We were told what fish to look for. Some liked it under the shade of the boat. Others loitered near the ricks. We saw an eel or something eel-ish, and a cool black and purple goth fish (Might be a damsel fish. Not sure). Sadly no octopus.

Boat ride finished and we walked back to the bus stop, where we missed the hourly bus by about 3 minutes.

We loitered for a bit and got the next bus. Long long trip but there's aircon and a seat.

Back at Las Palmas, and we found a nice place to eat with seating by the sea, and an annoying family that were trying to get the attention of friends or other family members on the beach by whistling. Food was nice. Service was slow. But we saw the sun go most of the way down before it hid behind a cloud. And Flickums was helpful by being pushy at the waitstaff because I was feeling shy

Really wish I'd remembered sunblock on my back.

But aside from that I'm feeling very spoiled thanks to my lovely flickums!
