This one time, at band camp...
Apr. 4th, 2005 03:41 pmI think I need to find a new activity. All my recent stories and anecdotes seem to be related to sci-fi conventions.
On that subject.. I might as well go to Worldcon. Still got to decide where I'm going to stay. Where's everyone else staying? Why do I get the feeling that I could sleep for free on someone's floor ;) Might go fo the university accomodation a few miles away since I'm clearly not going to be whizzing to and from my room all day.
The size of the event is a little intimidating.
And I stall can't persuade any of you lot to go (apart from the con goers who are going anyway)
But I don't know why I'm so short of things to talk about. It's not like nothings been happening. I was resoundly beaten at a game of Go by a friend who wanted me to teach him. This is not the humiliating experience one might think since I have very ittle idea how to play the game apart from the basic rules. It was getting late, so we went for a 5x5 game for the next match. I still lost. I think my speculative strategy is broken. We also had curry. And chatted to my flatmate about the rules of Bridge and Mornington Crescent.
Talked about Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I've been busy every evening except Wednesday since quite some time ago.
Visited home on Saturday. I still hate driving through south London. I was after a birthday present for my dad. He is impossible to buy for. He has everything. On the whole it was a bit of a disappointing shopping weekend. Couldn't find a boxed version of an ice crema maker I thought he'd want, and I was planning to visit the Middle Farm Cider shop in Firle, but various family members kept delaying me and I didn't want to disappoint by saying no thanks to some hot buns. Besides, these buns are yummy. But that meant I had to wait for them to be cooked... Before that they had to rise. It all takes time.
I also still need a new job. Fixing tedious bugs is... well... tedious. 1 CV has been sent out, and an agent called. Talked about a potential job in Oxford, but I don't know if I'd want to move there.
Still not sure about the new doctor who theme tune. Don't like the opening credits much though. The flying block lettering for Billie Piper and Christopher Ecclescake seems tacky.
