The volcano is the centre of Santorini, in a very literal way. Right in the middle of the archipelago that was formed from the minoan eruption, and responsible for the island's geology and black sand.

So, we had a speedy but cramped bus ride to the port where we boarded the Alkyon 46 and set sail for the volcano. The hike to the top is about a mile. Not a massive task to be fair although Flickums current kidney ailments caused her to decline the incline. It was pretty tough going in the heat but it's not a massive distance and not particularly steep.  Plus, fortunately we did get to stop periodically for some brief lectures on geology and history from Gabriel, our guide. Sadly I can't remember much except that the big eruption was so many times the size of the Nagasaki bomb, and King George of Greece once visited then the volcano erupted 3 days later.

I was very grateful fir the iced coffee I received from flickums when I returned to the boat.

Next stop was a swim in the springs. It was a very brief swim to be honest. But we got to experience warmish volcanic water mixed with seawater.

Stopped at Thirasia for lunch. Found a nice looking place although language barrier meant I didn't quite get what I ordered. I wanted swordfish steak. Waitress said "Tuna?" so I assumed Swordfish was off and Tuna was the alternative or something. I was happy with tuna steak, but ended up with mackerel. Okaaay.  Also didn't get the second Coke I ordered. Flickums made up for it by buying me a forest fruits and yoghurt ice cream. We then had a dip in the sea, although Santorini beaches aren't really the best. This one was extremely pebbly. I probably shouldn't complain because I grew up near the Sussex coast, and at least we get to deep water quickly, but I tyhink the ideal coastline is the rocks around Dubrovnik.

Found a gift shop with Greek statuettes. We seem to have started a collection of these, so we can now add Poseidon to the pantheon of Mantelpiece Olympus.

Decided to try out the Edge restaurant because I thought it looked nice. It was nice! Flickums bought me a cocktail because it's my last day of being 46, and this has become a tradition. Ordered a Forest cocktail which was really delicious, and made with cinnamon!

Food was good as well, and the waiter really seemed to care! And he knew his wines. He got a decent tip.
