Interview. With Criterion.

Trains were hopeless as ever. How can a train be 14 minutes late after a 6 minute journey? Perhaps SWT should get a work placement student to look into this. It's not like it's unusual at Clapham Junction.

Usual deal. Short test. Perhaps we need a stadardised C++ games programmer test. This one wasn't all that interesting. They always want to know similar things. A question where the answer is to unroll a loop. Knowing what order a post increment happens in C. Use of static variables and static pointers. Usually a 3d maths question. This one was about distance of a point from a plane (or whether a sphere touches a plane, which is the same thing). I seem to be a little rusty on the subject. Took me ages to dredge up what I wanted to do.

Bundle of questions about various game related things. Technical director questions were a little vague. "Black" programmer guy seemed a pleasant chap who should be easy to get on with.

Wondering if I'd take the job if I got it.

On the positive side, the project is more fun (a first person shooter designed to be fun), and there are perks to working for a multinational, such as a health plan, share options and wotnot.

A fun FPS is an interesting concept. Whatever next? Originality? Something diffferent from the run, shoot, key, door, health pack combo? Unlikely, but it could happen. Then we could see a turn based strategy game that wasn't a copy of civ.

But I do fear EA, and the upheaval could be a hassle. I would need to move fairly soon. The commute is bearable, but not great. I asked about it. Moving to EA was seen as a positive thing for most of the staff. They're more interested in Games than Canon were, and their resources are a little more relevent. There was mention that their easy going flexible schedule might disappear if EA put their foot down. That would be bad.

I thought I'd visit Pinky and The Brain's new place on the way back, but I called. No answer. Called The Brain's mobile. Turned off. Tried to find out if they had a new number, so I called AlPerrot. Seems they have the same number. When people have 2 phones, IM, and email, you would expect it to be easy to get hold of them. Evidently not.
