My plans for the weekend.

Saturday - Do some coding.  I want to play around with flight physics.  Applied maths can be fun.  And I really want to play with some umbers because while I understand roughly what makes a plane go up, I'm not 100% certain about what other factors keep the equlibrium and keep the plane level.

Except I didn't get that far.  It started Friday evening.  My computer froze.  I went to my friendly local computer shop.  Seems computer guys aren't early risers so they open at 10:00.  The place eventually opened at 10:20.  Sadly, nothing in stock and the guy there was not remotely enthusiastic.  So that was a waste of time.  Ended up going to PC World.  I actually got helped by someone who knew more or less what he was talking about.

So, I now have a nice speedy Pentium Core Duo and a GeForce 8 I also have a spare AGP GeForce 5 kicking about.  And either a working Athlon CPU or a working Athlon motherboard.  Not sure what to do with either of these.

Still, by the time I got home and got everything installed, working and tested, it as time for lunch.  So that was the morning gone.  I spent most of the afternoon trying to work out how to use the GLFramework Library.  It has a usueful utility for loading textures from files but I need to use it to handle creating windows as well, otherwise it won't work.  Kind of annoying.  That took up most of the day.

Sunday I just wasn't in the mood.

On the positive side, I did gatecrash a friend's dinner party and chatted to some friends I hadn't seen for a while, and some FoFs I hadn't seen at all.  Also saw my parents, ate some of their food and helped my dad with moving some wood.

Visited  [profile] cath_er_ine's new place, along with a selection of others. It was fun.  We watched films and ate curry and went for a walk in the woods.  and had things thrown at me at night.

Sunday I saw The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.  I've not seen the other F&F films, but I'm still wondering whether this has anything to do with them since I don't think they share any of the same cast.

The race scenes are sort of fun.  The plot makes no sense whatsoever.  There doesn't seem to be any justification for anything that happens, and there's no way Lucas Black is 17!  Perhaps he was just kept back at school for the past 7 years.

And apparently last night it was windy.  This morning it was cold, wet and windy.  It's horrible out there.  I expect being by the coast makes it even worse.

So, [profile] tinkerbell1980 called me.  She wants internet access for her new place.  She doesn't have the internet access she requires to order it, so has to ring up BT.  She also didn't have BT's number but presumably that's on the website.  Trouble is the lack of internet access.  I'm sure you can see the problem.  So she called me to see if I could find their number on their website.

So, I looked on the website

You'd have thought that BT would be easy to contact by phone but it took me ages to find one simple number.  Clearly BT didn't pay their phone bill and got cut off.

Yay! After a long long silence from sapling (I refuse to use people's real names on the internet).

I met her online a couple of years ago. I lived in Bristol and so did she at the time, so I thought we might get on. Then I got a new job in London, and she moved back to Kent. Took a while, but a couple of months ago I finally managed to visit. And it was great. Then I didn't hear from her for ages. And my paranoia and self doubt kicked in.

So, I sent her an email, and she replied yesterday. Yay! So I'm a lot happier now.

Acting workshop was the best yet. Improvaisation! Did lots of exercises, like create a tableu - in a group - representing a theme. Gradually getting harder. It started easily enough. Wimbledon, then murder (corpse, murderer, discoverer and someone fainting), then got harder (e.g. aphrodisiac). Other excercises, followed by an improvised production. All a lot of work, and great fun. Then we went to a bar and chatted afterwards.

And now it's over. So I need to decide what to do with my free evenings now. I want something that's totally non work related, and doesn't involve heavy brain work. A good female/male ratio would be a plus. I might do amdram, or I might try something completely different. Not quite sure what's available though.

In unrelated news, the TV moved out, and took my flatmates (The sci-fi fan and his wife) with it. I helped them move. Saw the new place. All very nice, but I'm going to miss him. And his replacement - while a perfectly amiable chap - is a sports fan, rather than the sci-fi nut type I'd have preferred. The landlord seemed very keen on him (perhaps because he works for the Bank of England), so we didn't get a lot of choice this time. And he seemed to get on well with flatmate #3.
