The weather is affecting my mood.  That and the fact that we had our half yearly company corporate wafflage.  I'd far prefer to have been working.  Especially since that would have meant that I got out 45 minutes earlier.  I really don't care at all about how the company is organised.  Just tell us about the games.  And let me out so I can get home before it gets dark!  Getting back at night is depressing.

Still - made it to Ceroc.  First Move Open variant, secret Swizzle variant, something horribly complicated.  All moves that require stepping in the right place at the right time, and knowing left from right.  A concept I have difficulty with at the best of times.

Todays moves were
Figure 8
Sway-caress
Catapult-turn-Man-Half-nelson-Lady-Comb.

And there were about a dozen of us.  No absolute beginners so there was some more intimate stuff including some style tips.  Which is pretty useful because I've always been a bit woolly on the footwork for armjive.

First-Move-backpass, Pretzel-drop, octowrap.

Drops are fun.

Lots of new people this week.  Wondering what's happened to some of the regulars from when I first started.

Ceroc

First-Move-elbow-spin,
Wulitzer-shoulderwrap (I think),
Basket-Mambo-unwrap.

And there was hardly anyone there.  Gets a bit dull dancing with the same people several times in a night so I went home.

Moves were Octopull, Backhander, "The one you just made up", and god knows what it was called.   I stopped paying attention.

I was too tired for this really.  Not enough sleep last night.  Caught up with me at about 9:00pm.

Ceroc

Yoyo-Block-Comb, Pretzel, First-Move Open.

Easy routine.  Or I'm getting better.  Whatever...  I had a good time and actually picked up some intermediate moves.  And someone complimented my dancing.

Well Ceroc was a little odd.  Only about 30 people there.  Only 2 beginners (both of whom had done at least one lesson).  More men than women (not unheard of in Ceroc, but generally the exception).  And most of the women who were there went home early.

Moves were Stepacross-Turn, Almost Pretzel 1, and Accordian-Flamenco-Aeroplane-Type-Thing.

And I went to the pub with a couple of people afterwards.  That was nice.

Going to Ceroc on Sunday meant I got to go for free on Wednesday.

Moves were Catapult-turn, Short Neckbreak and Hatchback-1.3-litre-Ford-Fiesta-Sway.

Or something.

Can never remember the name of these more complex moves.

Remarkable similar every year.  Model railway technology doesn't move on too quickly.  Although come to think of it, I didn't see the guy with the extremely detailed model of Portsmouth Harbour.

Still, kind of enjoyable.  There were some cute Daleks there and also a Dalek and Cyberman invasion on on of the models, which was a nice bit of detail.  And there was a fantastic huge model Lego castle with loads of people, including someone being mugged.

Ceroc was Catapult-Spin, Secret Swizzle and I-could-tell-you-but-then-I'd-have-to-kill-you sweep.  Beginners moves included the catapult.  Always fun but one of the trickier ones for the beginners.

TV Stuff:
Ashes to Ashes:  Not convinced yet.  Will have an opinion next week.
Reaper: I'm enjoying this series.  It's so stupid!
Torchwood: Hmm...  Still not sure I quite see the point of the series.  Still don;t care about the characters nearly as uch as the rest of my flist.
Lost/Heroes:

DVD Stuff:
I have 5 new HDDVDs winging their way to me!  Yay!  Wonder when Blu Ray will fall in price.  I so want Fifth Element in HD.

Costuming stuff:
What does a prince wear?

Dance Stuff:
Someone at work mentioned Salsa classes.  Trying to work out if I'm interested.

Computer Stuff:
Seem to have abandoned my last game idea having spent too long not working on it.  Need a new idea.  Thinking about a Carrier Command type game so I can play with water effects, but then a space/stratefy game with funky particle effects sounds fun too.

Ceroc

And todays moves were

First Move Block and Unwind, Hatchback, Open Neckbreak something or other...

I'm almost remembering these move names.  Then all I have to do is remember the moves!
luckykaa: (Default)
So, went to Ceroc again.

Suddenly I can remember more of the intermediate moves.  Which is kinda unexpected.

Helps to almost remember the names.  Armjive block and spin, neckbreak, comb something or other, Mambo-something else...  But I managed to remember how the sway works too.

Pies

Went to [livejournal.com profile] tictactoepony and [livejournal.com profile] masterofapath's place to watch stuff. Saw Waitress - a film featuring many pies and Nathan Fillion - an episode of Pushing daisies - a series featuring a pie maker and Anna Friel - and the pilot of the Sarah Connor Chronicals.

Not sold on the Sarah Connor chronicals so far.

Sunday was spent at home, playing with OpenGL. OpenGL annoyingly uses a clunky extensions mechanism for any remotely recent functions. Would be nice if there was a standard wrapper that I actually understood. Still, managed a rather nice looking two polygon sphere. Just want to find a way to add textures to it. Maybe it's time to start using shaders.

Turns out Lego is 50 years old today.

Finally - Ceroc. Lots of new faces. Quite a few seemed overwhelmed too early (even before the beginners' refresh course) Intermediate was First Move with a pose bit at the end, Sway something-or-other and Reverse catapult flim flam flange. I'm getting better at remember the names....

It's been a dull weekend. Didn't go out on Friday. Received a new PC to plug into my TV on Saturday. Cleaned my flat. Watched Bourne Supremacy. Tried to do some coding. Went dancing

Thoughts: Need to get out more. Not easy when in a depressed apathetic asocial mood. Nice to have a media PC even if it is that little bit too slow for some files (Maybe a new graphics card would help). I feel like Sisyphus. Enjoyable enough but I find it very hard to feel for any of the characters. Actually spent most of the time dithering - DX9 or OpenGL?

Ceroc people seemed to all disappear a little early. Still a bit inept at the intermediate. Knowing left from right is hard. And I can rarely remember what the moves are called. Still - it's fun. And I'm able to do some of the intermediate moves in freestyle now. Really need to chat to more people there though. Or find additional hobbies. Maybe it's time to think about some New Year resolutions.

Not seen Torchwood yet.  Ceroc has started a Wednesday class so I went along to that.  Tivo watched it for me.

I actually vaguely remember what the moves were as well.  Armjive Stroll, Pretzel, Yoyo-block-seducer.  Although I'm sure there are about 380 moves called the Pretzel, all different.  Maybe I'll go along to Sundays as well.

We had people at Brighton B&B7. And I really need to think of a decent name for the event. [personal profile] tictactoepony , [profile] masterofapath ,
[profile] squirrel_dreams , [profile] emperor_zhark, [profile] hybridartifacts, and a couple of other geeks who may not be on LJ came.

[personal profile] tictactoepony , [profile] masterofapath  and [profile] squirrel_dreams  went back to my place and we played Singstar.

We went to sleep.

We woke up and had a fry-up.

Went to Brighton.

Went to the beach.

Had fish and chips.

Went home.

Had dinner.  Yakitori chicken.  Tends to works well.

Sunday I started making the probably inauthentic but delightfully purple shirt I wanted to make for Eddie (Larp character).  Maybe I should have added some frilliness.

Went to Ceroc.  Wasn't really in the mood for dancing though.  Felt I ought to go though since it's not on next week and I'm Conventioning and Larping the following two weeks.  It's getting a bit frustrating.  I don't have the coordination to learn 4 intermediate moves in one go.

Why is it always so hard to drag myself to Ceroc?  I know I'll enjoy it when I get there, but it always requires a ludicrous amount of will power to actually get out of the house and get down there.  I then get down there and have a good time.

Mnd you, the weather really didn't help.

Do I still care what the beginners moves were?  Probably not but they were Armjive swizzle, Basket, Shoulder slide, Catapult..  Intermediate was a catapult variant, first move basic, uhmn, some sort of arm crossy over thing with a swizzle and Wulrlitzer Spin and Drop I think.

Wish I could remember everyone's name.
luckykaa: (Default)
Funny thing.  Every single week I have to force myself to go to Ceroc.  I know if I go I'll have a lot of fun and be happy all through the following day but convincing my psyche of this is difficult*.  Then I eventually drag myself there, have a lot of fun, but will my psyche listen next time?  Of course not.

So, anyway, turns out either intermediate Ceroc is getting easier or I'm getting better.

Beginners moves were Armjive, Manspin, Cerocspin, Octopus.  As a sequence of beginners' moves, this is a lot of fun.  Looks good, and quite easy to pick up.  It's also going to confuse you Leroc peeps because apparently Cerocspin and Octopus both have different names there.  (Cerocspin is a right-handed, man grabs wrist with left hand and spins the lady.  Octopus is left hand over right, lady turns, then man turns then lady turns).  Also good because Octopus was the one beginners move I really needed a refresher on.

Intermediate was Manspin catapult, Backhander, Some swizzle variant, and something isanely complex that looks great when done well and awful when I do it.  Probably called the V8 twin overhead cam or something.

*My psyche wants to do this.  Not an unpleasant way  to spend the evening by any means, but dancing is better.

Went to reading to do some Lemming spotting.

Saw Transformers.  It's actually not too bad.  Didn't really keep much of the Transformers lore except character names and the fact that they're robots in disguise but they did keep the Witwicky family in there.  And Prime does say "Freedom is the Right of all Sentient beings".

Also saw Kull the conquerer, Hawk the Slayer, and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.  And some Scrubs and lots of a Car is Born.

What was the weather like this weekend?

Ah yes.  It was hot.  I know because I went to Ceroc (beginners was first move, shoulder slide, catapult (Yay!  Always fun!) , basket).  Intermediate was first move mambo, something else involving crossed hands and some sway variant.  I got sweaty.
luckykaa: (Default)
Decided beginners was getting a little tedious (armjive pushspin, Shoulder drop, stepacross and side to side for those keeping track), and I've got refreshed enough to go to intermediate again.  Turns out it wasn't as hard as last time I went that far.
