Feb. 26th, 2007 03:22 pmFun fun fun. Redemption does that.
So what happened?

And now I'm home. And have mucho telly to watch and still need to buy food.
Have to decide where to go next.
So what happened?
[edit] Now with even more election scandal.
Friday
Well, we got there. Bought myself a new Satnav gizmo. She was very helpful but did seem to want to send me round the back of the hotel rather than the large signposted entrance. But anyway - Went in. Registered. Checked in. Went to a panel or two. Did want to make a point about true VoD being the future and not downloading in one panel but the panel was getting further and further off-topic and I didn't really feel I could explain it that well.
Then the starting ceremony started. There was a pub quiz.
lemming_man was a little cocky about how well he'd do. Poor thing. He is amongst geeks.
Found myself joining in a game of werewolf. Seemed to go on a long time. It was an unusual game. We lynched the Sherriff. I think it was more because he was annoying than because anyone thought he was a werewolf. I accidentally poisoned the seer (I was the witch, who can do that) on account of him being rather quiet, and this being the normally quite loud
multiclassgeek. Ooops. The strategy turned out to work though since he was in love with a werewolf, who promptly killed himself because he couldn't go on.
Went to the Ceilidh for a bit. Didn't dance that much. Didn't always have a partner. They still need more women at these events.
Decided that since we had this event, the Simon Tam outfit would work best. People admired the waistcoat but didn't quite make the connection and recognise the character.
Saturday
Met the lovely
the_major and
ednun.
The Eclectic 21 quiz was fun. We lost. The people running it seemed to get a little muddled about points, but I don't thinmk it affected the final result enough to make a difference. I would have liked to have done Glen A Larson or B5 for the mastermind round but didn't have a partner.
tinkerbell1980 answered questions on Buffy and Angel instead. She knows her buffy.
Sat around in the Rotunda with
beermat,
lemming_man, and
purple_peril a bit before I got fidgitty and decided I had to do something.
Became Captain Jack Harkness for the hall costume day. Competed in some K9 driving. Gave K9 a quick pep talk before starting. He did okay but I think he was drunk. He could not go in a straight line. I was pleased with the costume and rteally need an excuse to wear it again. The great thing was that most of it is standard RAF kit, so I can buy it cheaply from any army surplus store. All I actually had to do in terms of manufacturing was the buttons for the braces.
Changed out of Captain Jack costume for a bit, and saw the Masquerade. Missed most of the Masquerade due to eating and lack of prior planning :( But I did see the end of the Cabaret. There was some good stuff. Saw
tinkerbell1980's performance and steve Kilbanes, which were the ones I really wanted to be there for so that was okay.
Then it was party time so Jack went to the bar then to the party and flirted shamelessly. Drank Spitfire. What else would Captain Harkness drink? He chatted to a local Psi-cop, another version of himself from another dimension (clearly the dimension where Jack's female), and did the tentacle porn thingwith Londo Mollari. Jack is totally shameless.
I met lots of people I already knew, some I didn't know, a few people I recognised but didn't know, some people who knew people I know, and chatted to some flatmates of
blazingskies about Transformers and uhmm. I can't quite remember. I seemed to have some alcoholic amnesia. Nice people anyway.
Few panels stayed on topic. That's what happens with panels.
Sunday
Mostly panels. Went for a quick swim but my friends were no longer there so got out. AI panel got a bit bogged down with philosophy which is annoying. I don't care whether my AIs are alive. They just need to feel that way.
Our team won the music quiz. Maybe I was just there for moral support. I did seem to be the only person nerdy enough to know Voyager's registry number though. Much hilarity as we seem to have stolen Mike from the other team, and he knew the theme tune from Dune and the composer for 2 points. Since we won by about 1 point, that was significant. We had a pretty good team.
Ate at the Harvester. They're a chain and as such a little soulless, but I don't have too much of a problem with them. The food is cheaper and better than the hotel, and they make it clear that if you leave a tip on CC slip, then it goes to the the actual person who serves you. Far too many companies just add it to profits.
[edit]
Ah yes. Musn't forget the Ruler of the universe election. Some very good candidates. Some very underhand cheating. 800 votes cast from an electorate of 400. The Space Baron won. Then the Narn Cardassian Alliance andf Mr Flibble formed an alliance and won. Then the Klingons joined the space baron. And Zaphod Beeblebrox's party (the party party party) joined the fray And I now have no idea who won.
I want this event to last longer.
