Which Babelfish translates from German to English as "The Hard 4.0". Rather mundane. Translating to German and back gives "Cube Strongly 4.0"

John McClane is back, and he's got to protect a good hacker and single handedly defeat some evil hackers.  Using Hollywood style computer hacking skills, the bad guys have disabled pretty much the entire US.

On the way, he gets attacked by a helicopter, which is destryed in a bizarre way, tlater gets attacked by an F35, which gets destroyed in an even more implausible way after causing a ludicrous amount of damage to a highway while constantly missing a large, slow moving truck, and his daughter gets abducted, presumably to make it personal.

So, it's a daft action film with lots of big explosions.  As an action film, this sort of thing is kind of enjoyable.  The thing is, there was absolutely no reason that he should be doing this on his own.  And it wasn't Christmas.  And the villain just wasn't interesting enough.  And it lacked any real cleverness in the plot.

So, on the whole it was a delightfully silly action film, but didn't really feel like Die Hard.

If hackers had the powers of Hollywood evil hackers I would so become one.

Hmm.. okay, so you're argument is that it didn't feel like Die Hard because..

There was no absolutely no reason that he should be doing this on his own - You are clearly missing the "incompetent and over stretched official bodies" card here.

It wasn't Christmas - By now John McClane probably spends most Christmases sealed in a concrete bunker with his family (this would also explain the families hostility towards him). To a merkin the 4th of July is a good runner up.

The villain was a little flat, I think it would have helped if he had to make a choice clearly showing he really was in it for the money and in no way interested in national security.

There was some cleverness in the plot, about as much as you'd find in 1 or 2 at least, although it would have felt better if the villain had a man in FBI still to add to the mix.

I suspect one of the problems is that being a geek you need to suspend your disbelief at the door to enjoy a film with hacking or significant tech in it. I could be wrong but I'd guess anyone working in air traffic control would rate it higher than 2 for similar reasons.

Oh and how can you complain about things being implausible in Die Hard flick, have you never seen any of the other ones?

You entirely missed out Kevin Smith.

And Boba Fett.

For once, an action movie where I found myself *worried* when the place someone lived was being shot at repeatedly.
Not for the sake of the people in it of course, but for the tech and geek toys ;)

Anyone see if the end credits contained anything like "No Wolverine figures were injured during the making of this film"? :P
