Someone nearby has a car alarm. Either we have some very very slowcar thieves or it's broken.

Makes me wonder what the point is of the damn thing.

I had a car alarm once and it was a complete pain. The wretched thing used to go off almost every time I used it, so I ended up disconnecting it. :-(

Incidentally most alarms are really very easy to turn off if you're trying to steal a car.
