I need to get my mum a birthday present.

Options are something dull but useful that she wants (from a list) - like a DVD player or a digital radio, or something interesting but not on the list.

Thing is she'll never get round to buying useful stuff for herself.  My parents just don't do that.  They are incapable of grasping just how cheap electrical equipment is these days and just buying one next time they see one.  But I don't like buying stuff from a list.  It always feels a little unimaginitive.

Grab something off the list, but do something different as well to go with it e.g. homemade biscuits or fudge or something.

In my opinion people should always stick to lists unless they have a 100% success rate with choosing useful/wanted presents. There's nothing worse than taking time to make a list so you get what you want and ending up with useless ugly items that wasted tons of energy to be produced and end up in land fill.

Sorry, I seem to not be able to switch off vehemence mode. Slap me. No, harder!

It is the [livejournal.com profile] luckykaa way - he tends to already know the required answer and just wants to see if we agree ;)

You mean other people can't?

No wonder people get confused when I tell them what they're about to say.

Because people might come up with something I hadn't thought of.
