Actual diary stuff
Mar. 11th, 2004 04:54 pmWell, the jobhunting seems to be going somewhere, at last, although today seems like it's kind off a bad tech day.
Had an interview with Beutiful Game studios. This is a branch of Eidos that deals with footy games (Championship manager). Felt I really ought to have a clue about the game before going to an interview. Had a bit of a problem actually getting a demo of Championship manager since Eidos' web site has a limit on the number of people who can download at a time. Grrr! Don;t they realise some of us have a pressing need to play their game demos?
I was a little concerned that I might not be enough of a footy fan, but a passing interest in the sport seemed to be enough for them. They asked me some strange questions though. Headphones on or off? Do I smoke? How much memory in a PS2? X-Box? Gamecube? (I got these wrong at the time. For reference, the answers to these are 32Megs + 4 Megs of RAM, 64 Megs unified memory, and 40 megs divided into 32 meg main memory and 16 megs secondary, I think). Also one of the people quized me on Direct3D. which ios odd for a game that's almost entirely based on static screens.
Then got back. Seems that 2 agencies are interested in putting me forward to the same job at the same company. The first one called me, sent me an email, and I never received it. Sadly all of these companies seem to withold their number so I couldn't get back to him to tell him since I forgot what the company was called. It's very annoying not being able to talk to a someone I need to contact. There's nothing I could do except wait.
Not sure how I should deal with these agencies though. Should I just do first come first served? Should I play preferences? I suspect there's a lot of backstabbing behind the scenes actually, and I'm just a pawn. I'm trying to decide whether I'm concerned about this.
