DIY and Decorating.
Jan. 8th, 2018 03:26 pmHouse is making progress.
Spent an eye-raising amount at B&Q. But I did have a trolley full of paint, wallpaper and tools.
The Black white goods have arrived. We were told to expect a 4 hour window for delivery. The text came at 7:30 on Sunday morning. The phone call came at 7:45. The delivery came at 8:00. I got dressed and drove up there very quickly.
Previous owners felt that a nice touch was gaping holes in the walls around plug sockets; and kitchen plug sockets hanging off the walls. Bought replacement sockets at B&Q for the kitchen. Found they weren't the right sort. Flat panel ones where we don't have flat enough wall. That was a minor inconvenience, but new socket looks nice. Decided in the end to keep the other one because it's hidden behind the fridge and freezer.
Upstairs one, I felt I just needed to put poly-filler around it. Unscrewed the socket, and it stuck. Screw was put in crossthreaded. Removing it seemed to break the screwthread in the knockout box. Whole thing was a bit of a bodge, with knockout box quite a way back into the wall.
So I bashed more holes in the wall to remove the knockout box, went to Wickes, got a replacement and found that it was too deep. Back to Wickes to get a medium depth one (and a shallow one because they're really cheap and didn't want to wast a journey if that was wrong.
On the plus side,
flickums managed to paint one of the rooms purple and add half a second coat. I stripped most of the wallpaper from the man-cave. I did finally sort out the electrical sockets. Falcor is now transferred and installed (every house needs a Luck Dragon).
Things are making progress. Man Cave will probably require a lot more work than I expected so that can wait. We can move in comfortably, fairly soon. It will be a while until it's really a home but it's a good start.
