One Hell of a Butler.
Jun. 8th, 2018 10:45 pmA show I'm enjoying at the moment is Black Butler. An anime series about a demon butler called Sebastian. The butler describes himself as "A Hell of a Butler". It's a good catchphrase and gets the premise across. He says it a lot. A typical exchange, after Sebastian does something impossible is:
"Are you sure you're just a Butler"
"I am one hell of a butler"
A little trivia is relevant here. In the original Japanese though the wordplay is a much more interesting pun. According to this stackExchange post, He says either " aku made shitsuji desu kara", or "akuma de shitsuji desu kara". Both sound the same.
The first means, idiomatically, "I am a butler, through and through, you see".
The second means "I am a butler and a demon, you see"
Both answers work perfectly as a response to "Are you sure you're just a Butler". Knowing this adds a certain something to exchanges like the one above.
