Rumbunctious Yahoos and Hot Jazz
Feb. 27th, 2022 09:38 amLast full day in London. Met up with Pete and visited the Lego Store. Then Forbidden Planet. Then went to see Magic Goes Wrong.
Magic Goes Wrong is from Mischief Theatre - the same group that did The Play That Goes Wrong. Written by the same people plus Penn and Teller - who don't appear (although Penn's voice does). A couple of the cast are the original Mischief team though. Henry Lewis (The boisterous "Robert" in the Goes wrong show) is the Mind Mangler. Does a fantastic bit with the audience where he completely fails to read minds. And then got somewhat sidetracked by a builder who builds orangaries. Naturally all of the tricks go deliberately wrong, because that's the premise, but a few of them go wrong in a very clever way, and there is still a magic trick there.
We also have a video guest appearance from Derren Brown, pursued by a bear.
We went our separate ways as we returned to the hotel to flump and change for our second engagement of the evening. To the 20's... The 1920's!

flickums bought me a trip to the World's Smallest Speakeasy for Christmas. It was time to use it. I dressed up in my finest pinstripe suit, waistcoat and gangster hat. Flickums was dressed in a flapper dress with a feather boa - plus a headdress thing, although had to nip out to get some hair pins for that one - , and established that she's not good at walking in heels. We arrived in plenty of time and, after finding the damn place we were met by the hostess who admired our outfits. Miguel our private bartender for the evening was a few minutes late because he wanted to dress up. I'm so pleased he did!
We were shown to a tiny little room which had two chairs and a bar, and no room for anything else.
Flickums was persuaded to drink a little. The bartender was very good at finding things that didn't have a strong taste of alcohol. Poor Flickums was a little tender afterwards since she's not a big drinker. We did have some very nice cocktails. Sex on the Beach, Black Russian (Flickums had a White Lady at the same time which was a nice pairing) and I asked for a poisoned apple. Not quite sure what I ended up with but it was a sweet whiskey based cocktail that tasted of apples!
We actually got more time than we were meant to. I think Miguel liked us. He also showed us another hidden room. Got a taxi home and collapsed on bed.
This morning we're both feeling a little fragile.
However Flickums is an awesome girlfiend and it was an excellent Christmas present!
