The Thing and Things
Oct. 18th, 2003 12:21 pmRecent discoveries:
Went to Ben And Nikki's post wedding bash. Told a couple of people what I did.
Seems nobody had heard of "The Thing" (either game version or film version). This surprised me. One person was a games fan and another was someone I always felt was a at least a bit of a Sci-Fi fan. My faith in humanity was restored when I complained to another friend that nobody had heard of the film. Said friend asked "What? Neither version?".
Also found that the recent release of The Thing movie uses the cover from the game rather than the original poster art. This is bad. The game cover has far too much empty space to fill with reviewers comments, and the game cover is designed for the plot of the game, not the film, so it doesn't fit.
On the subject of work - The company seems to be going down the tubes. We couldn't get a very specific answer to a simple question "Will we get paid at the end of the month?". A far as I can see, this leaves me with 2 possibilities:
1. I don't get paid at the end of the month, and see how quickly I can get another job, or
2. I get paid at the end of the month. And then see how quickly I can get another job.
I'm just getting into the frame of mind for pestering people to see if they have any jobs. If anyone knows of any companies who might want a geek with knowledge of games, and other 3d related stuff, please pass on their details.
The only thing that seems to be annoying me right now is the possibility of not getting paid. Unemployment is a drag, but not a problem. Wasting time is annoying. Seems to be the time for it though.
Other news - Took Thursday and Friday off. Met a friend. We saw Lord of The Rings exhibition at the Science museum. Then we saw One Upon a time in Mexico, Kill Bill, and would have seen League of Extroadinary Gentlemen but it was sold out. In a cultural exchange, he showed me the Batman vs. Aliens vs. Predator fan movie, and I showed him Troops. Not really much of a cultural exchange since we both have largely the same culture, and these were just short films we felt the other had to see.
Every time I talk to this guy, we seem to come up with some nifty concepts that should go in a Sci-Fi series. I think I missed my calling going into computers. Maybe I should go to film school.
P.S. Hey, guys, any plans for a Hallowe'en party this year? Just wondering.
