No suntan. I spent 20 minutes in total on the beach so not a huge surprise there. Unlike a lot of Brits, I don't think red and blotchy is a good look, and find lying in the sun tedious. I really should have updated as I went. I'm sure I missed out loads here.  I also can;t remember what most things were, so [profile] sam_tree - if I missed something or got names of places mixed up, let me know.

So anyway -
Friday:

Arrived early evening. Nothing really interesting to say about the flight or the airport. Arrived. Found
[profile] sam_tree after a short search. Had a lift to her home. Lovely place. Was impressed by the geekiness of a Linux user guide and a PC running Ubuntu. I'm feeling a little outgeeked here.

Was surprised at just how tropical the place looked with the palm trees along the side of the roads.

Didn't do a lot because I was a little tired after the flight. Ate something. Met sam_tree's mother. Lovely person who doesn't speak much English but a little more than I speak Spanish. Really made me wish I'd spent some time learning some of the language. sam_tree's friend - Reset - stopped by. He really makes me think of [profile] forbiddendanish We went to eat. Tried a nice sandwich-like thing at a cafe. Geeked a lot.

Saturday:

Saw Malaga. An old historical city with lots of traditional architecture, sadly a lot of which is not really well maintained, but mostly very pleasant. Went to constitution square. Saw a crowd of people gathered around a stage and some re-enactors. It was the 200th anniversary of a major uprising against the French. Would have stayed longer and listened but since it was all in Spanish, I just grabbed some photos.

Bought some teas. Some infusions actually. And an infuser. And some sweets.

Went back at one of these points for lunch. Traditional Spanish Paella and prawns.

In the afternoon we went to the Alcazaba (I think that's what it was). an old Moorish castle.  Fun to dash around.  Lovely views across the city. Felt a lot like Lara Croft except without the energy.

Went to eat in a fish restaurant.  Had squid and some marinated fish things, which were interesting but not to my taste.  Also had some sardines cooked on an open fire.  Went to a bar. Had a nice cocktail. Came back. Fell asleep watching Crusade.

Sunday

Spent a bit more time In Malaga. Saw the Picasso Museum. It's a nice collection.  Felt a little expensive for what it was.  I do rather like Picasso though.  We also went to the park. Lots of trees from around the world.  Got some lovely photos.

Played Settlers (seafarers expansion) in the evening.  Man, that took a lot longer than expected.  I sort of won on points but it doesn;t really count.  We had to end early.  The Spanish edition of Settlers is a little different from the German and British ones.  The pieces are plastic and detailed rather than crude shaped wood.

But had to get to sleep.  Have to get up to get to the Alhambra

Monday

So, off to Alhambra.  even more Tomb Raiderish.

The Alhambra is a Moorish castle in Grenada.  No signs indicating what everything was about.  I could have bought the Audio tour, but I don;t like them and they're expensive.  Instead opted for a guide book to read later and find out what I'd been looking at.  It's quite possible to appreciate it anyway.  So, it's a castle and a palace.  Built at the top of a hill - as castles often are.  There's the defences, and palaces.  No real indication of how they were used but some fantastic architecture.  At least from the Muslim period.  The Christians were really quite spartan with their home designs.

They really loved sun and water there.  It was pleasantly cool as well.   Not sure if it would be so nice in mid summer.

Went for Tapas for lunch, and had some sangria and some rather nice local beers.  The sangria was fantastic.  The local beers were quite nice too.

Tuesday

Picked up some bottles of drink in the supermarket.  I felt I ought to out of tradition.  Then went straight to the airport after playing Tetris getting the bottles into my bag.  Chose the wrong line for security.  Two lines were going into one checkpoint and for some reason they needed to scan everybody.  Took forever!  Well, not exactly forever but a good 20-30 minutes.  And spent another 30 minutes the other end waiting for bags.  I think next time I'll drive.

Man, you had paella, sangria, Picasso and the Alhambra? So jealous of you now. I mean sure, it's hot and sunny here too, but it's not as much fun when it comes with working and dusty cities ;).
