I guess you want to keep the spog alive so chunky plastic ones might be safer than dinkys!
I assume he already has a mat with streets laid out? If not make one! I used to love pushing dad's old dinkys* around one of these when I was little (up to about age 7/8 I believe)
(*Dinkys were all safe in their wooden box with the lead soldiers last time I checked - unfortunately all were well played with even before I got my grubbly little mitts on them so no retail value - they still rock though!)
A mad idea but...bring a couple of cardboard boxes, some felt pens, sellotape and scissors. Spent an afternoon making a cool car out of a cardboard box. The parents might think you're weird, but you and your nephew will probably have more fun!
