Honestly, this is all so much darker than I was initially planning. My death toll is probably in double figures by now. And unlike my last nano novel, all the deaths happened on camera.

But I've reached the end. This is rather a shame since I need another 6637 words to succeed. On the other hand I was really struggling for more plot. I need something else to add to my highwayman's gradually increasingly criminal record. I eliminated the proto-bad guy, redeemed the fake bad guy, and dealt with the actual villain of the piece.

Can anyone suggest a crime that I might commit. It has to be in some way morally defensible. That's a rule I can only break exactly once.

How about writing really bad poetry.. come on that has to count as a crime, as for morally defenisble that could be tricky.

See, see the kind sky
Marvel at its big puce depths.
Tell me, Liz do you
Wonder why the pug ignores you?
Why its foobly stare
makes you feel tired.
I can tell you, it is
Worried by your flaurge facial growth
That looks like
A ice.
What's more, it knows
Your moist potting shed
Smells of pea.
Everything under the big kind sky
Asks why, why do you even bother?
You only charm cheeses.

See there's another 75 words for you ;)

In other thoughts - theft, blackmail, fraud, counterfeiting, or a good old fashioned con job are all most ignoble persuits.

They're also more likely to give your highwayman the right sort of character. I guess it really depends on which way his character drives.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you've probably written him to be quite smart so perhaps conning a rich arrogant fellow out of his coin is the way to go.

Well, he's a she... And I wish I could write an elaborate con. Sadly all my characters need to be smarter than me for that to work or I need a really dimwitted victim.

Ahh the old need to be smart to write an elaborate con misconception. You really don't.

The thing with a good con is that it is a little smart, but mainly they rely on misdirection and the victim's need for something.

I'll tell you what, if you buy me a beer then I'll gladly tell you all about this really neat little scam that uses a donkey, a three feet of sisal rope, and a stick of celery.

How about impersonating a nun to rob a church?!

Dressing up posh (in stolen clothes) in order to attend the theatre on the arm of rich men? (it's just a hobby!)

Dressing up as a stable lad to steal the winnings of the royal derby?

& obviously there's the trail of rich ex-husbands approach....

So far we have...

Breaking into an animal testing lab.
Poaching.
Murder (in self defence)
Breaking and entering.
Grand theft auto.
Running a blockade.
A prison break.
Theft.
Armed robbery.
Torture.
Maiming.
Evading arrest.
Murder (someone who really deserved it)
Hostage taking
Murder (someone who didn't deserve it)

And I'm not quite sure what crime is committed when you seduce a soldier in order to steal their uniform and break into an army base, or drug someone to get information out of them but she did that too.
