Why is this machine so slow?

luckykaaSeriously, my netbook is faster than this!
I know it's only a Pentium 4 an they're kinda outdated, but really they're not that slow surely!
Last time I had a P4 with XP it was much faster than this and that was a crappy Compaq.
This is the worst eelopment PC I have ever used. Too slow, not enough RAM, loads of cruft and a paltry 40Gigs HD space.
