It was my Birthday on Thursday. Spent most of this week celebrating.

So, having decided to choose a non-trendy restaurant near Clapham Junction. Told all my friends, booked a table. They didn't have enough space. Ooops. So, it was a barbecue instead.

So, my birthday. Took a day off. I always do that on my birthday. Saw [livejournal.com profile] the_smut_fairy and [livejournal.com profile] raygungothic. Talked about steam elephants, and generally, did very little. Called my friends to tell them of the change of plans. Then dashed home, went to the supermarket, bought lots of dead animals, and some burnt wood. Buying charcoal in September is really difficult, even though it was one of the hottest days of the year. Seems people are not interested in barbecues any more. Received some DVDs, some alcohol, some chocolate and some clothes as presents. Lots of people came. Most of them were people who live in the same house, but one friend from Brighton managed, which I was quite pleased about. Shame that guy's not a mingler, but he chatted to the people he knows.

Friday, I went to work, and was a little disappointed that I didn't get a card. Not quite sure how they know whose birthday it is. Perhaps I should have mentioned to the right person. People have all been a bit busy to bring this subject up though. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get anything. I went home in a sulk. The girl I know in Kent was online, so I chatted online for ages, and felt a lot better. And I arranged a visit to Canterbury. Yay! I think if you've been talking to someone for two years, it's nice to try to meet up.

Ate dinner of leftover barbecue stuff, and headed down to Sussex, because my dad wanted to do me a meal for my birthday. I am also now the proud possesor of some train related games. My parents got me a Trainz (train simulator) and the Hornby railway simulator. Trainz may cause a problem though, because it does require a lot of resources. My graphics card can usually compensate for a slow processor in graphical apps, but I don't have the 1.25 gigs it needs to install (Did the developers not realise that data can be stored on a CD?)

Saw I, Robot. Enjoyed it. The robots don't look convincing though. And the product placement was a little in your face. "These cool looking boots can be yours this year, kids!"

Dinner was nice. My dad asked me to get some After Eights, on the assumption that I like them. There's a bit of a problem with this - I like anything with lots of sugar. My dad doesn't like chocolate very much, and hates choc-mint as a combination; I'd quite like it if he could join in. And I think Nestle are one of the nastiest, most unpleasant, horrible companies around. All in all, I'd prefer not to buy their stuff.

Whizzed home the next day. A Cinema was showing all the Indiana Jones films. It was fun, but they used very old prints, so the sound kept screwing up. Shame really, especially because the audio does exist in a pristine format - on DVD - yet they had no way of using that and syncing it with the film.

Got home. Thought I'd have a play with the Hornby train simulator that I got for my birthday. It's a fun little game, but you don't get enough trains to play with. Actually - that's not the problem. The problem is that most of their steam engines are LNER, and most of the coaches are GWR and LMS.

I seem to have been rushing around or working non-stop since coming back from New York. I need a day off.
