I'm the rocket man (almost)
Mar. 7th, 2010 07:03 pmWell, today has been productive.
Went to supermarket to acquire some bottles. 10p for a bottle of water. Maybe somewhere will sell just the bottles but this is fine.
Went to Homebase to fail to get some more plumbing supplies. Did get a file, some glue and some copper coloured Hammerite paint though, so not a complete failure.
Went to Wickes to get some more plumbing supplies. I actually have enough for the rocket pack but I want to do some more things with lots of pipe. Found some toilet cistern floats which are perfect for the round fuel tanks I wanted.
Tried some experimentation. Poured the Hammerite into the bottle and shook it about. It does give a decent enough finish but it's way too brassy a colour. Wish I'd gone for brass rather than copper. Failed experiment but I do have a can of paint that might be useful. Tried spraying the parts instead Much better.

Wish I'd taken some photos before painting and sticking the spherical tanks together.
Also made the harness. No pics yet. Need to work out how to attach the rocket to the harness. I have some spare bits of strap so that will probably do the job. The whole assembly is quite flimsy though. Impact adhesive holds the pipes in place but it's hard to get anything to stick to plastic. Currently trying glue gun which has the added benefit of looking like welds when painted.

Date: 2010-03-07 07:30 pm (UTC)For attaching other surfaces, I'd use nut-and-bolt.
Please to be investing in some gold wax and grate-polish for breaking up the paint-job. Trust me.
Actually, don't bother with the grate polish because I have two tubes.
go on to ebay and buy a pressure gauge or two: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=pressure+gauge+&_dmpt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&_fscr=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m19

Date: 2010-03-07 08:19 pm (UTC)Also need to work out what to do with the cone.
It would be nice to have some controls but I can't think how to connect them.
I will buy some pressure gauges although not necessarily for this but I do want to make some incomprehensible steam stuff for WitW. This is Raygun-gothic rather than steampunk so gauges aren't as important.
