Blowing things up!

I spent the day learning how to make things go bang, and now have a nice shiny certificate, and am now a member of the Association of Stage Pyrotechnicians.
I always liked fire and explosions. Pyromania is not unusual amongst kids after all. And I still like explosions and things. My mum decided that a good Christmas present would be a one-day pyrotecnicians course at Brighton Dome.
So I learned all about ignitors, safety legislation (surprisingly little actually applies), maroons, jets, gerbs, stars and comets. I can make a short circuit effect (Well, the Star Trek exploding console thing, which looks nothing like the effect of a real short circuit), and now how to wire these things up. Also given good links on where to get all levels of pyrotechnics, from flash paper to big sparkly things.
All good stuff. Pretty hands on. The obligatory presentation part with lots of powerpoint was interspersed with practical demonstrations.
And we all put together a quick show at the end.
It was a fun way to spend a sunday.
