This week has been one annoyance after another.

So, I got the car fixed.  Paid through the nose.  How much do Halfords pay their mechanics?  And is replacing an alternator really that hard?  Had I more time I'd have done it myself but needed to get home.  Still, car starts beautifully.  Hasn't done that for a while now.  I was regularly starting pointing downhill.

Drove away.  Turned on radio.  Asked for a code.

Called Peugeot dealer I got it from.  I'm not in the system.  Apparently I need to take it into a dealer with proof of ownership and they'll charge me £35.

I said that seems rather a lot for looking it up on a database.

He explained that they needed to get the radio out which involves dismantling the entire dashboard.

This morning I grabbed a couple of skewers, and pulled the radio out.  Took me longer to find the skewers than get the radio out.

Think I'll avoid Peugeot for my next car.

Edit: And posted on a forum to get the code for free.  1212, for anyone who does want to steal it.

Isn't the code specific for the car - we had a similar problem - though the peugeot near us charged a lot less - and it was specific to our radio or something - it wasn't 1212

It's specific to the radio. But Googling "Peugeot radio unlock code" got me to a forum of lovely helpful people who have access to the database.

I actually mentioned it mainly for my own future reference.
