Should probably add photos to this...  maybe later.

Roundabout last year, I decided to spike my hair for a party.  Everyone liked the spikes, and encouraged me to do this as a regular thing.  So I did.

A while ago, I pondered dying it black but was hesitant.  Several people said I should give it a go.  So I did.  Decided I kinda like it. Not better or worse.  Looks a bit tougher.  Liked the change so thought I'd stick with it for a while.  When it grew out, went with plum semi-perm.  Two tone effect was subtle but I liked it.

Felt like being a little more adventurous.  Tried adding blue highlights.  A lot of faff to pre-lighten, and slightly orangey wasn't light enough for the blue to work.  It just wasn't at all visible.  Tried again with red.  Large chunky patches.  Left it on for as long as possible.  Really liked this.  Should have taken photos.  Trouble with this is that the colour just doesn't last.  I knew this, but was surprised how much it had faded noticeably the next day.  After a week it's still sort of reddish but veering towards blonde.  I'm sure I can refresh it.  Am still at an experimental stage.

I rather like experimenting with interesting colours.  Pondering what to do next.

Permanent red = try Superdrug's own Hot Red. It's permanent and vibrant [it's on my own hair!]

Now you've bleached it to buggery, buy a load of different directions in. Then you can chop and change.

Sadly red pigment fades superfast.

For permanent dyes, I'm a bit fan of the Schwartzkopf XXL range, they last pretty well even on my hair. They do have a fair bit of ammonium in them though so do fry your hair a bit, but I suppose if you have short hair the damage will be cut off fairly frequently.

Anyway, they do a blue-black among other things, my friend Kev uses it and he's naturally... a bit redder than you but a similar tone... and it works for him.

Tried them on your recommendation. Schwarzkopf's new shaky foamy one works well, although blue black and satin black don't seem to be much different.

But just black is a bit dull. I liked the red spikes I managed for New Year but pondering other ideas.

Also, be wary- black on short hair over white skin can create mock-baldness!
