Well, once again, am sad that the con is gone. Was nice to meet new people and have 4 glorious days of geeking
Things I did
Was originally scheduled for 3 panel items.
So, I did the Metagame, then ended up joining a team for the music quiz. And had signed up for the masquerade (as Edward Scissorhands), and for the cabaret (A Plumb Job). Saturday afternoon was hectic.
Metagame was huge fun. Basic principle was each team was given a game, and then a discussion topic was chosen at random. Could have been anything from which is the most poetic to which is most likely to get you laid. Games included Football Manager, Elite, Super Mario Brothers, Gran Turismo. We had 60 seconds to defend our choice. Some heckling from the audience which got them a few points. And we invented the game of Raindance Dance Revolution.
Edward Scissorhands costume got an audience response. Cabaret entry got a few chuckles but wish we'd had more time to prepare.
Kudos to the masquerade organisers for coping with me needing to do a quick change between events, and to tech for dealing with our complex technical directions.
Was moderator for the can Videogames tell a good story panel (spoiler alert: yes they can), and was on the film nostalgia panel where we had panelists in their 70's, 50's (I think) 40's, and 30's. Starting with that classic "Destination Moon"
Things I saw
Turns out that all the best panel items were in room 38. Apparently whorehouses were an important revenue source for the church in Shakespeare's time, and (from another panel) that movie horses are specialists. Some are trained to lie down, some are trained to rear up, some are trained to run in a straight line.
The imaginary Gripes panel was entertaining for its random pointlessness.
Hall costumes
Wore the Edward Scissorhands costume for the robots theme, and a Victorian rocketman for the superheroes theme. People admired my rocketpack. I was quite pleased with it myself. Didn't wear the Edward Scissorhands costume for two long though. Based on womens leather trousers. They're somewhat less roomy than those cut for a man.
Things I didn't do.
Somehow managed to see nothing George R R Martin was in except opening and closing ceremonies. Didn't buy anything in the dealers' room and failed to do any gophering. Sorry guys. Was feeling a little off colour.
Also missed the unsolvable problems in mathematics talk. I have no idea how I missed that, but I presume the topology of the hotel was one of them.
Of course the reason I go to eastercon is to geek with other fans. Much time was spent at the bar. There was some good beer there. There were some good fans there too.
