So, went to see The Avengers last night.

Apparently I should have stayed past the end credits.  Normally I do but I wasn't sure whether there was anything, and it was a lot later than I expected.  It was longer than I thought it would be and I got a bit mixed up with times.  Plus I don't understand the transport network well enough not to take the long way round.  Shall try and dig out the after credits bit on youTube.

Anyway, I discovered that VO = Version Original, VF= Version Francais.  VOstBIL = Version Original Subtitled, Bilingual.  Although this was in the Dutch part so the version I want is "OV". Also the machines had an English language option.

Couple of oddities:

Oddity #1:  They charge for the loos. Only €0.35, but it seems odd since they have to pay someone to collect the cash.  Also I got a voucher that appears to entitle me to €0.50 off something.

Oddity #2: 10 minute intermission.  This is apparently a relatively recent thing in Belgium, and a little controversial. I'd rather just see the film, thanks.  I can hold on!

Was wondering if I'd be able to buy a glass of beer, but if Pulp fiction is telling the truth, that's evidently just a Netherlands thing.

The bit after the end credits isn't that spectacular, it's mostly just an injoke for people who actually know the comics.

There was a bit after the end of the film but before the credits in the Australian version; there wasn't anything after the credits. It had all the feeling of a bit that follows the credits, it just came before them.

Yeah, there apparently is a post-credits sequence (the Avengers silently eating a meal at a Schawama restaurant), but only in US prints of the film.

You may also come across VOsiP in smaller cinemas - Version Original s'il Pluvait (original version if it's raining). Out of curiosity, where were you?

The loo charge is the reason why Belgian loos are generally so well looked after, Madam PiPi (and sometimes M'sieur Pipi) is a long-established tradition :)

I know the intermission in Switzerland used to be the cigarette break, I'd assume it's a similar principle in Belgium now...

"Version Original s'il Pluvait"? Is that Gallic humour, or do they actually check the weather?

Heizel - North of Brussels, Just on the edge of the city. Still in the Brussels region so nominally bilingual, but in practice there's no hard border between where each language is used.

Hadn't considered the smoking thing. An indoor smoking ban has only been in effect a couple of years here, and there may well have been more of a smoking culture.
