Girl Geek Dinners had a Dinner for girl geeks. I know a girl geek, so I went along as a handbag.

It was sponsored by Microsoft. They were demoing Windows 8.

So we went to Bruges. Left the station. Went the wrong way out of the station. Established this was probably the wrong way. Went the right way. Found the hotel. Had a look around the city. I rather like mediaeval Flemish cities. The cobbled streets and old buildings really add a lot of charm. Bruges goes all out and has horse drawn carts for the tourists.

So we were to meet at the Historium. This is a series of rooms with video telling a story of ancient Bruges. Apparently a "5 senses" tour, but I don't recall tasting anything, and my balance was never distrupted. There was plenty of drama in the first scene then the story got a bit dull. I'm not really sure what we were meant to learn from it.

Microsoft did their presentation in the Duvelarium. The Duvel selling shop in the museum. We had free beer! Yay!. We also had free nibbles. Tasty but I felt somewhat salt saturated by the end. H was somewhat upset at the lack of veggie nibbles.

We got a free Bruges pass that allows free or reduced entry to all the museums. Thanks Microsoft. So having received this and eaten their food, we took the freebies and scarpered.  It was late. Christmas market was still open. As were the friteries. Had waffles and hot wine, and frites. Looked around. Returned to the hotel.

Next day we decided to take advantage of the freedom of the museums. Saw the Salvador Dali exhibition, and the Picasso exhibition and the frites museum. I had to see the frites museum, just to see how a museum can be dedicated entirely to frites. It did have considerable content on potatoes as well.  I learned how to make a perfect chip.

Feel I probably should have been more committed to spending some time there. There's quite a lot to see.

Will leave my initial impression of Windows 8 to another post.
