Found on reddit; Someone used a free trial of Google consumer surveys to ask 1000 Americans to name a British city other than London.

Top results were Liverpool and Manchester. A few people knew Westminster was a city. Curiously Wales was in there, and bizarrely Paris. Two people even put Amsterdam!

Some of the entries in the Raw Data are much better. Aside from a few "I don't know"/"I don't care" answers ("111", "asdfasdfasdf" and so on), we have those quant cities of:

Dog
Do Scottish or Welsh ones count?
Faggotsville (thanks for spotting that [livejournal.com profile] davidbrider)
Huffingandpuffingshire
Mitt Romney!
Naryatoothintown
Newbugglesville
Quigley on Thames

I will admit to being almost childishly amused by the fact that three people, asked to name a British city other than London, put "London". You had one job to do, guys...one job... Also, the number who put "Britain." "Name a USA city other than New York." "USA." *headdesk*

I'm quite amused by "Faggotsville," if only for what that tells us about the person who wrote it (more than his location or income could ever do...)

But yes, "Do Scottish or Welsh ones count?" was my favourite. Yes, dear. I think you'll find they do...

Also, I was quite pleasantly surprised to find unexpected places like Bedford, Luton, and my old home town of Chelmsford picking up a vote each! :-)

As a Brightonian I was pleased quite a few people picked my home town, and one person even put the actual city name "Brighton and Hove".
