Movie plot holes just sit there taunting me. I need to bitch about them. Sadly my ranting lacks any particular humour value.

Pacific Rim

The obvious nitpick of this being ridiculous is invalid. Rule of Cool says giant robots win over realism. I can even accept that they'll believe that a wall might work and justifies winding down the expensive armaments programme. Politicians are idiots.

The whole Nuclear = analogue thing bugged me a lot. It makes no sense!

Main annoyance though - there's a lot of background plot about pilots being "Drift compatible". This seems to be linked to a strong emotional connection. So teams we see include two brothers, (Gipsy Danger), a father and son (Australia's Striker Eureka), brothers again (China's Crimson Typhoon), and a husband and wife (Russia's Cherno Alpha). This all makes sense, illustrates why it's such an involved process to find a new partner for Becket, and makes sure Mako Mori has to be the chosen one. Great!

For some reason though, Striker Eureka can just have Stacker Pentecost says "we're drift compatible, lets go". Seems to devalue the whole thing.

Elysium

The rich go into space and the poor are stuck on a polluted earth. Meanwhile the rich live on a space habitat and have magic health care machines in every home.

Are we really expected to believe that a society with extremely low health issues feels the need to put their medical bay in each and every house, rather than simply ship them to wherever someone might need to be healed? That health care is produced but hoarded? Andnobody is charitable enough to ship some of this medicine to the planet, even to prevent all those illegal immigrants coming up and breaking their windows?

And why do the Elysians lock their houses in the first place? Are the incursions from Earth really such a common occurrence?

Superman: Man of Steel

Why couldn't Clark save his dad? He could have run over at normal human speed and helped his dad rather than just watch.
