I never used to be big on travel. Family holidays were always a little stressful. Then I went on a holiday, on my own, to New York. I loved it! So I was a bit of a late starter when it came to globetrotting.

Really this is apropos of nothing, but thinking of future holiday plans helps keep my happy in the cold dreary winter, so these are the places I want to see:

Cuba

Vintage cars, tropical weather. Lovely beaches! And I really need to get there soon! I have a strong feeling in a year or two it's going to be a very different place. I was really hoping to go in the winter, and escape from the cold of the north of Europe but perhaps I should hurry it along.

Kings Landing Dubrovnik

It's not just the Game of Thrones connection. I've always loved walled cities. No idea why. I also like beaches and mountains. A walled city by the beach by a mountain can't be beaten! I suspect there's not a lot to do for a long holiday but could certainly see myself spending a few days there.

Of course I could always split a breakm, and also visit...

Egypt

I really want to see the pyramids! The rest of the country no doubt has additional attractions. I'd need to find out what these are.

Reykjavík

A little colder. But the cold never bothered me anyway. The picture shows one of the attractions. I did see the northern lights in Tromsø but it was a little hazy. Would like another go. But I've been to Tromsø before. Why not go elsewhere?

Also, have a panorama of the city.

Peru

Specifically Machu Picchu.

Those are the bucket List destinations. There are a few others that I'd like to see.

Prague

Looks nice. Has beer!

New Zealand

Another place to migrate to for the Winter (local summer). I have no idea how I'll ever get there though. It's almost a day of flying. Now, obviously there's any number of places that I can go via. Chances are I'll end up there for Worlcon 2020, but that's unlikely to be any later than early Spring.

China

Not just a walled city; a walled country! It's changing rapidly. Would love to see it.

I'm sure there are many others.

These days, one of my go-to icebreakers is about travel. So where have you guys been? Where would you like to go?

The one Big Foreign Holiday I've been on was New Zealand, which was excellent (we only got to see the north island and want to go again!). Especially the food is just universally awesome, particularly if it has anything to do with a cow (dairy or meat). The day of flying was pretty awful, but Qantas planes are quite nice (they have a snack bar with fresh fruit, and a water cooler, in Economy!) - the main problem was in fact the airport connections (Dubai is icky, Australia is insane - watch out for the random visa charges if your flight has a long AUS stop and the inability to leave the airport despite having paid for a visa).

When I went to Australia, I did a 3 day stopover in Singapore on the way there, and Dubai on the way back. Am thinking I'd go via Hong Kong or maybe LA if I went to NZ.

Some friends of mine did route 66 after Chicon 7. Looked like they had fun!

Surprised a seasoned traveller like you hasn't been to New York!

Can give you some travel tips for Japan when you plan it.
